I attended a function at the weekend where I was surrounded by people smoking cigarettes. As there was alcohol involved too, I had to be on my guard because I've read that these situations can be some of the most difficult for ex-smokers like myself.
Well I'm happy to say that I came through it without smoking; and the good news is that it really wasn't too difficult. I probably ate several people's share of the buffet, but that is a price I am prepared to pay for resisting the temptation of a cigarette at this stage - I did go for an extra long walk yesterday in an effort to burn off some of the extra calories though.
It's now my 16th day and into my third week without smoking and I plan to reward myself soon. It would be good if I could see a huge financial gain by not smoking, but as I used to buy rolling tobacco the savings aren't as great as if I had bought regular cigarettes. But nevertheless it is still a saving not to be ignored.
Incidentally, if you are reading this as a 20 a day smoker you might be interested in my thought for the day: Instead of buying your usual pack of cigarettes today, why don't you try setting light to a five pound note? Or would that be a waste of money...?

hi Tony,
Day 15 for me without cigarettes - not sure how I'm feeling, bit like losing a brest friend maybe.
The urges are still there - although it's in the mind not so much the body anymore.
I will keep going - can't give up now. I look forward to your promise of feeling better.
regards
Helen
The promise still stands Helen. I can honestly say that I feel healthier, more relaxed and fitter than ever now that I don't smoke - and you will too, so stick with it!
