Whatever Happened To...

Readers may wonder about the progress of Liz; my supposed accomplice in this stop smoking lark? After all, there don't seem to have been many contributions on this blog from her so it would only be natural to feel a little puzzled. Perhaps I should explain...

Liz has no willpower, she is an abject failure and a poor example of somebody quitting smoking. Yes, you guessed it; Liz is a (horror of horrors!) SMOKER!!! In short; Liz has failed miserably to give up the dreaded weed without lasting even half of the first day.

It would be easy for me to get all self-righteous, and it may appear to some (including Liz herself) that I have. After all, there is nothing worse to a smoker than a reformed smoker. If you have ever smoked yourself then you will be fully aware of the type I am referring to: It is the irritating bore who protests loudly about the smoker's filthy habit.

But I mustn't be complacent; after all it is only my 4th day as a non-smoker and probably far too early to be shouting from the rooftops. But I feel so much better without cigarettes. I can breathe easier, I don't stink of stale tobacco, my teeth feel cleaner and my breath fresher, and I haven't got to worry about running out of cigarettes or that my lighter will fail me. But perhaps most important of all; my wife and daughter have renewed their respect for me - and that makes me feel on top of the world!

Giving up smoking is not about doing without at all; it is about gaining a whole new healthier and happier way of life - I hope that Liz will one day realise that.

So if Liz has failed in her promise to quit smoking, what of the £50 for a cancer charity then? I'll leave that up to her conscience...
