Well I knew that I had put on an extra couple of pounds after giving up smoking, but now I think it’s time to do something about it. With a BMI of 27.2 I am officially “overweight” (either that or I’m 2 inches too short for my weight). I haven’t reached the level for obesity yet (critical mass?), but I could be called a Fat Bastard with a good degree of accuracy.
Apparently putting on weight is the most common long term side effect of quitting smoking, so I know I’m not alone. It’s weird the way it just creeps up on you though – ok, fair enough I have been eating a few extra biscuits and little snacks to help keep the cravings at bay, and I know I don’t get enough exercise. Combine this with a pretty lazy job sat in front of a PC all day and it was bound to happen I suppose. The question now is how I deal with it.
I can just about live with being an old bastard in a convertible, but an old fat bastard is pushing the boundary a little too far.
Obviously I need to change my eating habits and get more exercise. It sounds simple when you say it fast, but actually putting the theory into practice is more difficult. But then again, I have conquered a 26 year old deeply ingrained drug habit, so how difficult can it be compared to that?

Hi Tony,
Thanks for this prompt, got me on our scales. Well if the Scales are accurate(and it's a big but) my BMI works out at 25.6. So that makes another Fat Bastard.
Main thing is though excercise. Over Wieght though is different to Obese, so just some fine tuning can get you back to "normal".
Good Luck
Geoff
