As we approach the end of 2006 I imagine that there are many smokers who are considering giving up the habit - I know I was this time last year. And for some reason the start of a New Year always seems like a good time to quit smoking (or stop any other bad habit for that matter). How many times have you put give up smoking on your New Year resolutions list?
It took me a few years before I finally cracked it, but I'm happy to report that this year has been a success. It is now almost 11 months since I had that last cigarette and I can remember the last one well. Funny when I think about it now, because it was a kind of ceremony. I really couldn't imagine how I was going to cope without that stupid stick and I made a point of trying to 'enjoy' it for the last time.
But 11 months on and things are easier than ever. I occasionally quite fancy a cigarette; but not in that all consuming must have it right now kind of way that a drug dependent fool knows only too well. Yes, nicotine is a drug and if you are a smoker then you are addicted. But there is light at the end of the tunnel and if you really want to then you can quit smoking and stop the filthy habit. Perhaps as we approach 2007 now is a good time to start preparing yourself?
