If you are visiting this blog for the first time then thank you! I appreciate the number of people reading my experience of quitting smoking and I hope that in some way it helps. If even one person is encouraged or inspired to stop smoking, or perhaps just to keep on trying, then my time writing hasn't been wasted.
Actually, I wouldn't ever consider the time wasted anyway, because at the time it was a very effective and helpful activity for me which definitely improved my chances of quitting successfully. And I would highly recommend any prospective 'quitter' to consider keeping their own diary or blog both to record the experience, and as an outlet for some of the challenges they might face.
Now, if you have found Help Me Quit Smoking in the hope of finding some useful tips and advice about how you can stop smoking yourself. Then you have come to the right place; I don't pull any punches and tell it exactly how it is / was. This is my real life genuine experience of quitting smoking and I wrote it as it happened from day to day. But you will have to go back to the beginning to get a proper idea of how the process pans out. So may I suggest you travel back with me to December 2005 when I was still a smoker? Thanks for this blog! I am 22 days in... doing pretty good...
Way to go on your journey!
thanks for posting tony. such a great help. here's another important note.
Smoking tobacco is dangerous to your health. People should be informed by the issues about smoking.
To spread this information to a wider audience, a free e-book is being given away.
The book is endorsed by prominent people, such as Dalai Lama.
You can check out the e-book by going to this link http://www.tobaccobook.com/cdsguidebookspecial.html.
Your blog has definitely helped with the motivation. thanks a lot
I'm so glad this blog is helping others. I started writing it because it really helped me when I was going through the quitting smoking process, so if it helps others too then that's fantastic!
Thanks for the positive comments and good luck :)
I have just started my own blog that will include quitting smoking and stumbled on this one. I thank you for this and I'm reading through it for some inspiration as well as putting it on my page. Again, thank you!
Ive been smoking for 7 years now. Started as something we all did through college. And suddenly I realized one day that I couldn't do without out.
It shocked me, but I thought, hey what the hell, I enjoy it. But there comes a day when you wake up having smoked one too many the night before and your throat and mouth feel like an ashtray. And you realise you're spending lots of hard earned money on something that gives you that feeling! More importantly, you're no longer spending it because you want to, but because it has you. You have no control over it.
I came upon that day a month ago. It's been almost a week since I quit. Cold turkey. I was doing a pack a day, so I'm richer now- both the wallet and the air I breathe.
Went through your blog and loved it. It's been really hard and at times I feel like there's no way I can go through with it long-term. I'm not doing any NRT. Some nico gums from time to time, thats all. But blogs like yours with real experiences with quitting really inspires me and gives me hope. Even the horrifying narky and depressed moods (definitely the worst part of quitting) seem like they might go away one day.
I'll just hang on and keep positive.
Thanks for blogging and congrats on staying quit :)
Well, thanks again for the nice comments. I really appreciate receiving your kind words about my blog. As ever; stick with it and keep on quitting because it does get better and easier - I promise!
Hey very motivate blog, quit cigarette by purpose will add advantage to you. Like world top motivator Jim Ron said, the biggest the way, the easiest the how! So let's think about WHY you want to quit cigarette!
Good Posts. Thanks for your blog, it is so good, I really like it!
It is good to find a blog that is thorough and covers a long period of time.
Hi, my name is Dawn and I have also just started a blog to diarize my journey of quitting smoking. I am so excited that there are other people out there doing the same. I have also found that writing on my blog each day has been HUGE therapy. I started 5 days ago and my quit date is in 2 days - and for the first time I am actually excited about quitting. Cheers to us for choosing to escape the evil nicotine monster!

Thanks for your comments Dawn I'm glad to hear that like me you find writing your blog therapeutic and good luck with quitting!
We all try to accomplish something in our lives. By quitting smoking, we do accomplish a great and benefit outcome. And we can stop smoking even in 4 hours, after reading a boo, or after a great amount of will-power combined with better plans for the future. Everyone can! Success! J.
Today is August 29, 2009. On June 15, my partner was diagnosed with a brain tumor, as well as a tumor on the lung. After neurosurgery on June 23, a 6-day hospital stay both in ICU and on one of the floors, the unimaginable occured. My partner was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer with metastises to the brain and adrenal gland. We bounced back from surgery, only to begin chemo about 5 feeks ago; my partner has done very well with chemo. Last Friday, August 22, my partner suffered a seizure and we returned to the hospital -- he had never had a seizure before. He is a very healthy, professional male with a fabulous IBM career -- this should not be happening in our lives. On Monday, our oncologist advised us that the MRI that was done on Saturday revealed that the tumor on his brain that was removed has already grown back. Ergo, we began radiation treatment on Tuesday -- this will occur daily for three weeks. Oh, our oncologist told us that he may have 6 months to live. Given ALL the treatments that are availaboe for smoking cessation; given all that we know about smoking; given all the hurdles and reasons to stop smoking: i.e. prohibitive cost/taxes; sub-human treatment by most of us non-smokers, etc. Here is my gift, maybe this will touch -- screw "touch," maybe this will SAVE one person's life -- Lung cancer is the number ONE killer of all cancers. Moreover, more than 40% of lung cancer diagnoses happen when they are already at stage 4. Imagine the devastation that you create for your husband or wife; your child(ren); your sibling (s); your best friend. Imagine the hole you create, the lives you destroy, the events of the future that you will miss and that your family and friends will not have you participate in. Again, with all the cessation tools out there -- "you" can do it. If not, I will hold "you" in my thoughts ..."you" who represents all those nameless, faceless people who really seem to not really care enough about life ...until it will be too late.
Stay well.
Quitting smoking is a serious business and as you point out; failing to quit can have serious results. My thoughts and wishes go out to you both.
For everybody reading this who is finding giving up smoking difficult and is trying to find the inspiration to keep on quitting then I hope the comments above will help to remind you why smoking is a bad idea.
